Paul Feig developing female James Bond comedy 'Susan Cooper'

With "The Heat" hitting the big screen on June 28, director Paul Feig is ramping up development on a female spy movie titled "Susan Cooper" that he hopes will become a franchise for 20th Century Fox, TheWrap has learned. "Bridesmaids" director Feig is currently searching for a leading lady to star in "Susan Cooper," which will be a realistic comedy about a female James Bond, rather than a parody along the lines of "Get Smart" or "Johnny English. ...

Universal Rescues 'Dumb and Dumber To' with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels
By Jeff Sneider LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Universal Pictures and Red Granite have rescued the Farrelly brothers' sequel "Dumb and Dumber To" out of turnaround from Warner Bros. and New Line. Red Granite will finance the $35 million comedy and handle foreign sales, while Universal will distribute in the U.S.. "Dumb and Dumber" stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels will return to reprise their roles as dim-witted best friends Lloyd and Harry, respectively. ...

Director Costa-Gavras: European cinema could not survive without state protection

Lauren Oliver's YA novel 'Panic' snagged by Universal in bidding war (Exclusive)
By Jeff Sneider LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - Universal Pictures landed the film rights to "Panic," the next young adult novel from Lauren Oliver ("Delirium"), in a bidding war. The seven-figure deal closed on Monday night, according to an individual familiar with the negotiations. HarperCollins imprint Harper Teen will publish the book in spring 2014. Marc Platt will produce the project for Universal, which is keeping plot details under wraps. Maradith Frenkel, Universal's VP of production, will oversee the project for the studio. ...
